Day 6- It rhymes with sick...

Why do I always get sick when on vacation...

The sun, giver of life, sustainer of us all... but once in a while you have to pay the piper. I got hit hard on day 6. I couldn't sleep the night before due to constantly needing to evacuate, I tried to take a bath to discover that the bathtub didn't hold water..Come morning I was miserable and tired.

I guess I picked the right day to be screwed up though. As we had seen the main things we came to see, This day was basically a hang out day. After a brief problem at the hotel desk (they got our rate wrong) we headed out to kill the day...

We started off the day with a nice long felucca ride. This was a cheap, pleasant way to spend time, and a great way for me to try and get some rest.

We booked a boat to take us to banana Island (one of two islands in the area that tourists go.)

There it is, banana Island.

1 thing about it is odd...

It's not an island. It is on the bank of the nile, and you can walk to it from our hotel if you walk straight down the street.

He tried to rook us into buying tickets to go ashore, so we told him to turn around and go back. he was none to happy.

No crazy clown horns allowed.

The temple of Luxor was right next to our hotel. We decided to leave it for last because it was easy to get to.

The fields of numbered rubble.

Luxor temple is host to a cool row of sphinxes.

The outer walls and obelisk.

Luxor temple was OK, but it seems to me that once you've seen Karnak, it can't hold a candle.

Of course my opinion might be influenced by the fact that I was sun poisoned and shuffling around like a zombie.

Odd...

Out of all the languages in the world to write "no entry in" the chose Arabic (national Language) English (Global language) and Japanese.

I wonder why...

From there we headed up the street (by foot, man I was in a state) to the Luxor museum. Of course pictures aren't allowed, and I was too exhausted to shoot many anyhow. One thing I must say though is that the luxor museum is excellent. Even in my screwed-up state I enjoyed it. It houses a small but not too small collection of well preserved, and well labeled artifacts. It was actually a real breath of fresh air after the national museum in Cairo. I highly recommend the Luxor museum. If for no other reason, to restore your faith in museums after experiencing the soul crushing National one in Cairo.

We took a time out to sit on a bench and let the sun go down on us. We sat there not saying much and reading our book to find a restaurant for dinner.

We also spent a good 4 minutes talking about this cool spiky tree.

As the sun began to sink low on the horizon, we decided to have dinner in a restaurant we read was in a nearby hotel. We walked across the street. and got a lovely table right next to the pool and enjoyed a long, relaxing dinner.

We headed to the station after that, and bid farewell to Luxor.

Our train back to Cairo was a first class sleeping train that came with a meal, and beds and sinks and such

Todd tried a little bit of every part of the meal. Andy and I had one bite each and gave up.

Easily the worst food I had ever had on a train. It made me long for good times on the Shatabdi Express.

We washed up, hung our clothes and called it a night. I slept like the dead. Andy and Todd weren't quite so lucky. Andy particularly didn't sleep so well.

Night Sam. Night Ralph.
